“Spreading Love Through Crochet™️

Grandma’s Hands Crochet Project is a giving project providing comfort in the form of crocheted creations (blankets, hats, scarves, etc.) to anyone who needs cozy love – whether in a nursing home, hospital, homeless shelter, or even a friend/family member who needs to know someone cares.

History:

Grandma’s Hands was inspired by Doris, my grandmother and avid crocheter.

She was especially known for her colorful afghans which she always gave as gifts. (Even through her many health challenges, Doris always had yarn nearby.)

I called her “Gramma” and she called me “JennyRen”.

Known to her family as “Mother”, Doris was a giver as evidenced by her love, caring spirit, and the mounds of presents spilling from under her Christmas tree. She also gave me her “gift of crochet” when she taught me a simple chain stitch when I was about 10 years old.

In 2015, I was traveling a lot for business and thought crocheting would be a way to fill up the empty space on long flights, but I found myself frustrated and wasting yarn. Somehow, the simple crochet stitch Doris taught me 30+ years earlier didn’t seem to stick with me.

I picked up the hook again in December 2017 and a few YouTube videos later, I taught myself more stitches building on that simple childhood lesson.  In just a few weeks I was creating crocheted scarves, hats, and slippers; and it was obvious they were created to follow in “Gramma’s” lead — to give…gifts!

I only knew Doris for 13 short years, but her memory lives on through her children, grandchildren, her love of crochet, and Grandma’s Hands Crochet Project.

Thank you “Gramma” for this gift called crochet.
